(Above: Neilson Rep, Nat, Jan 2008 - The Bricole bar) 2007-2008 Neilson Holiday independent review by Ali... On the 6th of January 08 the Woody family flew to Turin, Italy heading to La Thuile for a family ski trip. The journey over couldn't have been easier.... The flight left from Manchester on time, landed in Turin early, and the connecting coach was ready and waiting for the 90 minute climb up the mountain. During our journey from Turin airport we met Natalie our Neilson 'rep'. Usually we shy away from the anyone selling us passes etc on the transfer coach, but Natalie managed to charm even Woody into buying our ski passes before we had even arrived in La Thuile! Not content with buying our passes through our Neilson rep we even attended the welcome meeting! To those of you travelling with a tour company, I think the 1/2 hour spent sat in a bar listening to a brief talk on the resort and some of the other activities available is definitely worth the time (the free hot wine helped!). Shawn and Natalie our Neilson reps did a really good job informing people about what they and the resort have to offer.. again Woody even bought tickets for the children to go quad biking and ringoing! They are both really nice people, who are really enthusiastic about their job and they made their guests feel really welcome! At the welcome meeting we met a family from 'up north' who we spent time with throughout the week, skiing, going for meals, oh and partaking in just a few drinking sessions! We were very lucky meeting Dave, Elaine, Jess and Mark. They managed to get me (Ali) to conquer a few fears by skiing red nine with me, Elaine has a very reassuring manner and I wasn't allowed to shout at her! The children played together all week, and the two eldest girls finished the week by skiing black 5! The restaurants in La Thuile were as accommodating as usual, the children are always made welcome which helps when going away with one's cherub's. Fabio at La Rascard without fail is a marvellous host and the food is always superb.
Emily made her 'debut' appearance in La Thuile, at the grand old age of 4years, we thought it was time she found her skiing legs. The week started off a little shaky as Emily would simply sit down if the planks on the her feet didn't do what she wanted them to do. She then tried going solo down the nursery slope ending up underneath the barrier at the bottom, luckily no tears! But I am pleased to say the week ended much more positively with a wonderful family ski around red 7, stopping off at The Roxy bar to warm our hands and drink their fantastic hot chocolate . To finish off Emily's first week of skiing she attempted the dreaded nursery slope and successfully completed her first controlled 'solo' run! We were joined on Thursday by Papa Bear and Nick, it was great to see them, and they had a great time, although I think Papa Bear would like to forget having to dig his way back up the mountain with his ski's when Nick took a wrong turn doing a little 'off pisting' on their first day! We were both unsure if we were going to enjoy a week away being just the four of us as we normally go skiing with a group of friends. But I can honestly say that we had the most amazing time. The whole holiday ran smoothly, the snow turned our world into a winter wonderland, we made some new friends and spent priceless time with our children and each other! |
